Fence Design

The Deck, Fence and Garage modules are very similar in their approach to the design process. After starting Lumber Package and loading the Fence module you will see the following screen. To create a New design you would then click on the Fence design button.

Customer Information

The next screen prompts for an Existing Customer or a New Customer for this design. By clicking on the Existing Customer button the Customer Information panel will load with the Customer Information already loaded. If the design is for a New Customer the panel will be blank. You would then fill in the necessary information.

"General" Shape

Following the Customer Information is selecting the "General" Shape of the Fence. There are a number of different Shape options to choose from. You would select the shape closet to the actual shape required for your design. Don't worry if the shape is not exact to your design as you will be able to adjust the shape later on in the design phase.

Fence Shape

The Shaping options allow you to modify the "General" shape of the Fence in order to have it exactly match your design. The options available allow you to modify part of a side or a complete side, cut or round corners, add openings and gates even add another Fence inside or outside of the original.

Fence Styles

The next step would be to select the Style of Fence you would like to use for your design. If more than one Fence is in the design you can select a Different Style for each. Once a Style has been selected there may be some options to choose from (ie: Post Size, Picket size, etc). The options to choose from are created by you, in fact the Styles are actually Templates which you also create. You can create as many Styles as you like. Some may be very similar, the only difference may be the Post size or the number of Pickets per section, etc.

Preview Style

Preview Style allows you to take a quick look at the Style you selected, if it's not what you want you can change it. This way you can determine the best Style to use before the Fence is drawn.

Fence Options

Once you have accepted the Fence Style the program draws the Design. You then have a number of options to choose from. The example shown may look a little bizzare but it is intended to show you what can be done. Lets review the Materials required for this Design. Note that this Design contains two totally different Fence Styles, our Bill of Materials will contain the materials for both Styles.

Bill of Materials

To generate the Bill of Materials you would click on the Review Materials button. The options displayed are controlled by you and are customized through the Material Control File. You can add as many options as you like. Some of the material generated may always be generated for every Design (ie: the type of nails to be used for the framing) therefore is not necessary as an option while other material may have 3 or more choices to choose from(ie: type of Hardware to be used for the Gates). It's strictly up to you what you want shown and what you want generated.

Bill of Materials - Reports

There are 3 Reports generated for the Bill of Materials. The first Report contains the Lumber required for the design. The next Report contains all the other Components required (ie: Nails, screws, cement, etc) and the Last Report shows the Wood Types used for the various area of the Fence as well as the price for the Materials. The Lumber Bill of Materials shows the Lumber Component, it's Sku# (Product#), quantity required, size and Wood Material.

Other Options

Other Options available are Modifying the Design and Viewing or Printing the various Reports. One Report that you would find useful either as a Contractor or to give to your Customers would be the Plan view which would show the layout including the spacing of the Posts, etc. If it is a large design with many details you have the ability to zoom in.
